In March 2026, Sarah curated and hosted the talks programme for L'Effet Québec Toronto, a landmark cross-provincial summit held at The Bentway bringing together creative leaders from Québec and Ontario's digital media sectors. Co-presented by Xn Québec, MUTEK, TIFF, Interactive Ontario, The Cfity of Montréal, and the City of Toronto, the event catalyzed new co-production and distribution opportunities across two of Canada's most dynamic creative ecosystems.

Programming highlights included interventions from Naomi Johnson, Executive Director of imagineNATIVE, and Kat Cizek, Artistic Director and Co-Director of the Co-Creation Studio at MIT's Open Documentary Lab, alongside panels spanning distribution, emerging technological trends, and export opportunities.
The event drew over 120 representatives from museums, cultural institutions, festivals, and city governments across both provinces, and debuted a new immersive format that reimagined traditional industry networking.

The 11th edition of MUTEK Forum – MUTEK’s annual gathering and showcase of digital creativity’s future – took place from August 20 to 22, 2025, in Tio’tia:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal, Canada at Monument-National, the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT), OASIS Immersion and DASA. Mind-expanding talks, performances, exhibitions, workshops, masterclasses, readings, and networking activities facilitated urgent conversations and new connections within digital culture — bridging music, artificial intelligence (AI), extended reality (XR), media arts, gaming, ecological futures, quantum art, and design.&nbsp;
The theme Radical Rituals frames the Forum as a space for resilience, care, and collaboration, where existing and emerging practices can spark systemic change. Radical Rituals are practices that build meaning and community while challenging dominant paradigms and imagining more just, inclusive futures.
To deepen this inquiry and encourage interdisciplinary dialogue, the Forum unfolded over three acts —&nbsp;Storytelling, Technology, and Practices&nbsp;— each offering a distinct entry point into the rituals of digital creation.

	Feel The Soundimmersive exhibition, Barbican Centre

How does sound—through its materiality, immateriality—act as a form of resistance and open up deeper questions of agency?
<img width="4600" height="3450" width_o="4600" height_o="3450" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/12e61d0d4ef08bed48a6b141522a2624f032375fbab7c36dee668b32c6539a92/B_FTS_P_30.jpg" data-mid="234840307" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/12e61d0d4ef08bed48a6b141522a2624f032375fbab7c36dee668b32c6539a92/B_FTS_P_30.jpg" />

Feel the Sound is a new multi-sensory immersive exhibition that transforms how we think about sound, taking place at the Barbican Centre in London, UK. Taking place across the Centre, visitors can explore how sound shapes emotions, memories, and even physical sensations. Feel the Sound challenges us to listen not just with our ears, but with our whole bodies – redefining what we hear, how we feel, and what we think we know about ourselves.
Together with artist Nicole L'Huillier, Sarah curated two immersive ‘Playgrounds’—Embodied Listening and Sonic Machines—inviting visitors to explore sound not just as something we hear, but something we feel, shape, and share.&nbsp;These spaces invite visitors to pause, listen, and engage with sound in radically different ways — through vibrating plates, instruments powered by magnets and AI, installations that sonify environmental data, and reimagined South American sonic technologies. &nbsp;

The Playgrounds feature works by: Amor Muñoz, Jan St. Werner with Gascia Ouzounian, Evelyn Glennie, Ryuichi Sakamoto &amp; Daito Manabe, Ale Hop &amp; Tatiana Heuman, Ei Wada / ELECTRONICOS FANTASTICOS!, Intelligent Instruments Lab, Holly Herndon, and Yuri Suzuki.The exhibition will be on view in London until August 31 and will then tour internationally.

In a moment of climate urgency and digital transformation, AI Ecologies Lab asks: What might artificial intelligence look like if it were rooted in ecological thinking, not extractivism?

The AI Ecologies Lab is an artist residency program that explores how artificial intelligence can be reimagined through ecological, ethical, and culturally situated lenses. Developed in collaboration with local and international partners (Society for Arts and Technology, Milieux, Applied AI, Abundant Intelligences) the Lab supports artists and technologists in prototyping new forms of AI that resist extractivism and embrace sustainability, care, and plural worldviews. From localized language models and low-energy networks to climate-aware animation and Indigenous-led frameworks, the Lab fosters experimental projects that challenge dominant AI narratives and propose regenerative alternatives grounded in both technological and relational innovation.

The residency culminated with a hackathon that took place at the SAT in June 2025. The projects were then exhibited at MUTEK Forum 2025 with a series of talks and demos on responsible AI for the arts sector.&nbsp;

Canada's representation for the 2021 Venice Biennale in Architecture. Presented by T B A + David Theodore. Exhibited in summer 2023 at the MOCA in Toronto.&nbsp;
Canada's architecture is film-famous but rarely are Canadian cities the settings in films. Why are Canada’s buildings so good at posing as elsewhere at the cinema? Impostor Cities is an exhibition that explores how Canadian cities double as other places on screen. Citizens of the world know about Canada’s architecture not only because they visit our cities and enjoy our buildings, but because they watch film and television. But unlike Paris, New York, London, or Rio de Janeiro, our cities are rarely the settings for popular shows. Instead, filmmakers and television producers turn Canadian locations into impostors. As the communications manager and digital storyteller, Sarah’s work involves building awareness and excitement around the project. Such as, conducting media outreach, managing the creation and development of their&nbsp;digital platforms, and overseeing the documentation of the project through the production of a print publication and digital content pieces.
Impostor Cities has been featured in The&nbsp;New York Times, Domus, The Globe and Mail, Canadian Architect, and many more.&nbsp;

A Lifetime in Photobooths is an upcoming feature-length documentary, co-directed by Meags Fitzgerald and Sarah Mackenzie, and produced by EYESTEELFILM and Gorgeous Mistake.&nbsp;
As the world regresses into hostility toward queer and trans realities, the film examines the
little-known queer history of photobooths, and how these private spaces democratized photography
by creating a safe way for marginalized people to document their lives.&nbsp;

Along with vérité scenes, the story is told through staged scenes using costumes and choreographed movement. These sequences are performed by the Queer Ensemble made up of queer
drag and burlesque artists of diverse backgrounds. Through big visual metaphors, energetic
travel sequences, and intimate interviews, the film writes a love letter to photobooths, and invites
audiences to experience the joy and wonder that these machines have to offer.

The film is currently in production and will be broadcasted on Crave (Bell Media).&nbsp;

The MUTEK Forum is a marketplace of ideas that brings together artists and industry experts in digital culture to explore the most innovative artistic practices, while stimulating reflection on the ethical and political issues related to technology.&nbsp;
MUTEK Forum 2023 (August 22-25) followed the theme Future Currents, featuring a carefully curated program of thought-provoking keynotes, performative presentations, interactive panels as well as workshops and masterclasses that examine our technological futures and the role of digital creativity within them. Each day of the Forum investigated innovation belonging to a specific track of digital creativity, ranging from digital creation &amp; curation to artificial intelligence (AI), extended reality (XR), and electronic music. These explorations will flow towards a new horizon of digital creation while simultaneously navigating the backdraught of tensions that come with innovation, from the heedless rise of technological development to issues of inaccessibility. Sarah collaborated with Water &amp; Music, National Film Board of Canada, Keychange, Goethe Institut, Ableton, Eastern Bloc and more to build a program of 41 activities involving 85 media arts experts. See the full program here.&nbsp;
1% of all proceeds from the festival were given to EarthPercent, Brian Eno’s climate emergency charity.&nbsp;

In 2023, MUTEK Forum won the Vivats Grand Prize, which recognizes eco-responsible events in Québec.

Future Festivals is a think tank initiated to jointly prototype new modes of cultural production. Future Festivals brings together a network of media arts and music festivals from Canada and abroad to jointly reimagine the role and responsibilities of publicly-funded festivals in post-COVID times. The network partners are New Now Festival (Essen, Germany), MUTEK (Montreal), imagineNATIVE (Toronto), Mois Multi (Quebec City), send+receive (Winnipeg), New Forms (Vancouver), and MUTEK.MX (Mexico City).During the project’s co-design process in spring 2023, the partners identified shared challenges surrounding questions of accessibility, resilience and sustainability.

Over 18 months, each participating festival hosts a Future Festivals Lab that gathers the group, their extended network and selected experts in addressing these fundamental questions of festival-making.

The goal: deeply analyze shared problems and prototype solutions—from immediate, easy to implement measures to more ambitious, long-term proposals.

The on-going documentation and publication is an inherent part of the project. We partnered with HOLO magazine, which are accompanying the project through an evolving multimedia dossier on holo.mg. View their Future Festivals Field Guide here.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Renowned filmmaker Gary Hustwit’s (Helvetica, Rams) new documentary Eno employs revolutionary technology to explore Eno’s work and ideas. The screening completely sold out the prestigious Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts, as part of MUTEK’s 25th anniversary.&nbsp;
Best known for co-founding Roxy Music, pioneering the genre of ambient music, and producing David Bowie, U2, Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, and dozens of others, Eno has also released over 40 solo and collaboration records. Hustwit and creative technologist Brendan Dawes developed custom generative software to sequence scenes, using Hustwit’s original interviews with Eno, extensive never-before-seen archive of unreleased footage, as well as an original score by Eno. Each screening of Eno is unique, presenting different scenes, order, music, and meant to be experienced live. The generative and infinitely iterative quality of Eno poetically resonates with the artist's own creative practice, his methods of using technology to compose music, and his endless deep dive into the mercurial essence of creativity.
