A Lifetime in Photobooths (Documentary)
role ︎ co-director

A tenacious drag king fights to protect analogue photobooths, sanctuaries for self-expression and queer identity, from becoming yet another casualty of the modern digital world.

A Lifetime in Photobooths is an upcoming feature-length documentary, co-directed by Meags Fitzgerald and Sarah Mackenzie, and produced by EyeSteelFilm and Gorgeous Mistake

As the world regresses into hostility toward queer and trans realities, the film examines the little-known queer history of photobooths, and how these private spaces democratized photography by creating a safe way for marginalized people to document their lives.

Along with vérité scenes, the story is told through staged scenes using costumes and choreographed movement. These sequences are performed by the Queer Ensemble made up of queer drag and burlesque artists of diverse backgrounds. Through big visual metaphors, energetic travel sequences, and intimate interviews, the film writes a love letter to photobooths, and invites audiences to experience the joy and wonder that these machines have to offer.

The film is currently in production and will be broadcasted on Crave (Bell Media).
